Factory Resetting Your Montavue NVR

IMPORTANT: Before factory resetting your NVR make absolutely sure that you know the correct TEXT password for your NVR.  This is the password you created when you first set up the system. You need to use this exact same password after the factory reset if you intend to use cameras that were already connected to it.  Factory resetting the NVR does not reset the cameras. So the cameras will keep that password. If you use a different password than the original after resetting your NVR then all of your cameras will say invalid username or password and you will have to reset all of them to fix this.  The easiest way to verify you have the correct password is to try to log into the NVR using it. If you are using an unlock pattern click forgot unlock pattern. That will bring you to the regular text password screen. Enter the password if it lets you in it is correct if it does not then it is incorrect.

You will need the following to perform this action:

A Monitor or TV with an HDMI input connected directly to your NVR

A USB Mouse connected to any open USB port on the NVR

The current Text password for the admin account on that NVR ( the password you created when you first set up the NVR)

  1. Using the USB mouse that is connected to your NVR, Right click anywhere on the screen and select Main Menu.
  2.  Next log into the NVR using the text password for the admin account. If you are using an unlock pattern click forgot unlock pattern and enter the text password for the admin account. Doing this will help verify that you know the correct password for the admin account as you will need to use this same password after the reset.
  3. From The Main Menu click the icon that says ” Operation
  4. There will be some options that appear on the left side of the screen. Click the option that says ” System Maintain
  5. You will then see some tabs at the top of the screen. Make sure you are on the Default tab
  6. You will then click the button at the bottom of the screen that says Factory default
  7. You will see a prompt window asking if you are sure you want to do this. Click yes or ok
  8. The NVR will shut down and restart.
  9. When the NVR reboots it will guide you through Be certain that you use the same system password that you were previously using to avoid having to factory reset your cameras individually.

Notes regarding the reset:

Factory resetting the NVR will not erase any camera footage that was previously recorded. All of the video footage that was previously recorded will still be available in playback. If you wish to erase footage you must format the hard drive which will erase all footage on the drive.

Factory resetting the NVR will not reset the cameras. Cameras will keep their password information as well as any settings that are stored in the camera such as tripwires motion detection etc. However, if you have set up any cameras to only record motion you will need to go back into Storage and Schedule to re-schedule those cameras to only record motion or IVS events etc. See the article for recording schedules: Schedule Article

You cannot factory reset the NVR without successfully logging into the main menu of the NVR first.

If you had previously added the NVR to any of the mobile apps you should not need to add it again. You should still be able to see the cameras on your phone as long as you used the same password for the NVR as before and the NVR is connected to a router with internet access.
